The Motorola TALKABOUT T42 walkie-talkie is a personal PMR446 radio communication system designed for everyday use in outdoor activities, at home or in small organisations, available in packs of 2 units or 4 units and in blue and black colour combinations. Built in durable plastic, it includes an LCD screen that clearly shows channel, battery level and basic settings, making operation simple for users of all ages. It offers 8 UHF channels to select the most suitable frequency and reduce interference, with 500 mW output power and up to 8 km range in optimal open-field conditions, suitable for hiking, camping, sports or coordination in large areas. Each unit is powered by 3 x 1.5 V AAA batteries, with up to 18 hours’ autonomy depending on use, and has a low-battery indicator on screen so cells can be replaced in time some kits may offer power via micro USB or connection to a 220 V mains supply using an adapter with EU plug, depending on the configuration. The unit weighs around 79 g, making it light and easy to carry, and features a 2.5 mm jack for compatible headsets or microphones, improving privacy and use in noisy environments, although a dedicated external microphone jack may not be available on all variants. In addition, management of up to 16 preconfigured tones or codes, depending on the model, allows simple organisation of communications in small groups.
