THE JOY-CON

The versatile Joy-Con controllers offer many new and surprising ways to play and have fun. You can use the two Joy-Con controllers independently, holding one in each hand, or use them together as a single controller with the Joy-Con grip. You can also attach them to the console to use it in handheld mode, and by giving one to a friend, you can play together in supported games. Each Joy-Con has a complete set of buttons, so it can be considered an independent controller. In addition, each Joy-Con includes an accelerometer and a motion sensor, allowing the controllers to perform independent movements. The versatility allowed by the Joy-Con controllers is set to revolutionize the world of video games by offering an unprecedented variety of usage combinations!
The left Joy-Con has a capture button that players can press to capture game images to share with friends on social networks. The right Joy-Con includes an NFC sensor that allows interaction with amiibo, as well as an IR camera capable of detecting the distance, shape, and movements of nearby objects in specially created games. This allows the controller, for example, to measure how far away a player's hand is, and even to distinguish rock, paper, and scissors. Both Joy-Con controllers include an advanced HD rumble feature, which can perform much more realistic vibrations than in the past in compatible games. The effect is so detailed that a player could, for example, feel the vibration of individual ice cubes clashing in a glass when shaking a Joy-Con. HD rumble ensures a realism otherwise only achievable with sound and graphics.

COMPATIBLE WITH AMIIBO

Just like Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Switch can also read amiibo, thanks to the NFC sensor included in the right Joy-Con. Thanks to this functionality, Nintendo Switch will also be able to multiply the fun in games that support amiibo, introducing a series of specific functionalities that vary according to the game and the amiibo used.

MULTIPLAYER AND ONLINE SERVICES

With Nintendo Switch, staying connected with other players is easier than ever: wirelessly, up to 8 consoles can connect locally. Players can place the console anywhere thanks to its integrated stand, then share the Joy-Con controllers to have fun together even away from the TV. The console will support multiplayer gaming via Wi-Fi. A new online subscription service will also be launched, which will be free at launch. The service includes a smart device application, available from summer 2017, which will allow players to invite friends to play online, set up game appointments, and chat while playing compatible titles.
